CORSIA & EU ETS Verification for the Aviation Sector

Since 2010, the aviation sector is involved in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). If you are operating flights to, from and within Europe, you will have to meet legislative requirements of the EU member state to which you have been assigned.

On 27 June 2018, the ICAO Council adopted the international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), as the First Edition of Annex 16, Volume IV. The SARPS of Annex 16, Volume IV, apply in all ICAO member states since 1 January 2019..

To achieve compliance with one or both regulatory schemes, aircraft operators have to use an approved methodology to monitor carbon dioxide emissions from burning fuel. Then they have to submitting a verified report with the emissions data. Finally operators have to offsett the emissions produced by surrendering the corresponding number of carbon credits to the authorities.

Failure to comply with the reporting and surrendering requirements will result in sanctions and penalties imposed by the individual EU member state to which the operator is allocated.

Our company ETSverification GmbH assures independet 3rd party verification of emission reports for CORSIA & ETS compliance.
